Kapalua Bay Sunset

I’ve always thought Maui’s greatest treasure is it’s incredible beaches. Unlike many places around the world, the beaches here in Hawaii are for the public to use and enjoy. Add to that rainforests, wetlands, the volcanic craters, streams and waterfalls, you pretty much have a recipe for one of the most beautiful islands on earth.

The Hawaii Island Land Trust is an organization with a simple mission: to protect the lands that sustain us for our generation and future generations in perpetuity. As our population grows and new developments occur, it is important to preserve the open spaces and culturally significant areas, everything from our beaches to wetlands and rainforests.

The HILT is active here on Maui, preserving several areas of the island that are home to some of my favorite childhood memories: Nuu Landing (my father and I have gone camping near by since I was a little girl), the Waihe’e Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge (where you can take guided hikes led by one of my former classmates, Scott Fisher), Ulupalakua Ranch (where I had some of my best adventures on horseback growing up), and Hawea Point here in Kapalua (where I walk nearly every day on Kapalua’s Coastal Trail).

Each year, HILT hosts its benefit “Buy Back the Beach Luau”. In it’s eleventh year, this benefit raises funds for oceanfront and shoreline protection and more. Tickets are still available for the luau held at Old Lahaina Luau, right on Front Street in historic Lahaina town.

The Luau will feature the traditional luau, as well as tastings from their family of restaurants: Star Noodle (my favorite new restaurant), Aloha Mixed Plate, and the new Leoda’s Kitchen & Pie Shop in Olowalu. Entertainment includes HAPA, the Old Lahaina Luau dancers, and more.

When: January 28, 2012 at 5:00 pm
Where: Old Lahaina Luau, Front Street, Lahaina

It’s whale season here on Maui!

No matter how many times you see them, year after year, it’s still exciting to see the whales return to Maui.  To me, it marks the beginning of the holidays and the birth of a new year.   I walk the Kapalua Coastal trail almost every day, and am always on the look out for the whales that frolic off the coastline.

For those of you that are passionate about whales, Maui’s ocean, and/or photography, you must attend Whale Tales.   is a free, public event held February 3-4, 2012 here at the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua.

World renowned scientists, photographers and filmmakers will be on hand to share their latest research and projects with the public, through educational seminars and programs, activities for children, book signings, benefit whale watches and more.  Activities surrounding Whale Tales will kick-off with a Whale Trust charity golf tournament on January 28th at the King Kamehameha Club and conclude on February 10th with Lahaina Restoration Foundation at the Baldwin House in Lahaina.

This annual event (formerly called Whale Quest Kapalua) has raised over $200,000 for whale research on Maui since its inception in 2006.  For more information on the Whale Tales events visit the Whale Trust website.  Whale Tales is generously sponsored by the Makana Aloha Foundation, an organization which supports organizations that directly improve the Maui community in the areas of education, the arts, health care, animal welfare and environmental conservation.

I wish I had a photo to post for you of a whale breaching, but I’ve never been able to capture it, so we’ll have to make due with a picture of the Ritz-Carlton here in Kapalua instead…

I hope to see you there!

Aloha,
Courtney

The start of 2012 is all about Kapalua Golf!

All eyes are on Maui’s famed Kapalua Resort, as the Hyundai Tournament of Champions welcomes the world’s best golfers to the Plantation Course for the PGA Tour’s season opening event. Home to some of the most breath-taking views in the resort, you’ll find some of Kapalua’s finest estate homes nestled along the course in the Plantation Estates. The tournament is a fundraiser for local charities, and the course has some incredible spots for spectators, so please join us if you will be on Maui.

Kapalua Golf has been stacking up accolades in the new year as well: GolfWorld has just named both the Plantation Course and Bay Course Pro Shops to the 2012 “100 Best Golf Shops.”

Legendary for the challenging Plantation Course, and the oceanfront Bay Course, Kapalua is also home to the Kapalua Golf Academy. The academy is recognized as one of America’s best teaching schools, and now can add that it is home to the top instructors in Hawaii as well. On this last day of 2011, I want to wish you and your loved ones a very Happy New Year!

May the warmth and the spirit of the islands be with you in the new year and always!

I am pleased to announce the listing of Coconut Grove #9. This spacious three bedroom villa was designed with indoor/outdoor living in mind: the living room doors pocket to an expansive ocean view lanai. In addition, there’s a private inner courtyard with landscaped with tropical flowers and an outdoor shower.

Coconut Grove Kapalua

Coconut Grove Kapalua

The Coconut Grove on Kapalua Bay is my favorite neighborhood in the Kapalua Resort: situated overlooking a perfect crescent shaped beach, this is a small enclave of just thirty-six villas on over 11 acres. Each three bedroom villa is oriented to the West to capture Maui’s famed sunsets. There are six oceanfront buildings and three ocean view buildings. Each building at the Coconut Grove has four floor plans–two ground floor villas with private courtyards (plans 1 and 2) and two second floor villas (plans 3 and 4).

At the time of this post, there are currently five Coconut Grove listings:
Coconut Grove 9 $3,295,000
Coconut Grove 15 $4,490,000
Coconut Grove 25 $4,890,000
Coconut Grove 23 $4,995,000
Coconut Grove 14 $5,250,000

You can view the sales history for Coconut Grove and other Kapalua communities in the market, or contact me with any questions.

Here’s the view from our listing at Coconut Grove 25 overlooking Kapalua Bay–it’s one of my favorite spots on the island.

On Tuesday, January 17th, 2012 a spectacular oceanfront home will be up for auction through Grand Estates Auction Company.

Since 2000, there have been 18 oceanfront homes to sell in the Napili/Kahana area totaling over $110 million in sales. Oceanfront sales prices in the surrounding area have averaged $6,134,722 with a low of $2,550,000 and a high of $13,700,000. A small oceanfront point, just a few minutes south of Kapalua Resort, Hui Road E has always commanded high values for oceanfront–in fact, the average sales price for the last four homes to sell on Hui Road E was $9,412,500.

The current owner of 20 Hui Road E paid $8,000,000 in 2008 for this Balinese style home that was constructed in 2005 and renovated with their own special touches in 2011. The home features 5 bedrooms, 5.5 Bathrooms, a den, and an attached studio ohana. It is offered fully furnished.

This oceanfront home is up for absolute auction, with no minimum bid and no reserve. The auction is scheduled for January 17, 2012 at 11 am HST. For more information including photos of the home, please refer to this 20 Hui Road E Auction Flier. They are allowing buyers to have representation in the auction, and I would be delighted to assist anyone that is interested.

For more information on participating in the auction, the house at 20 Hui Road E, or an other Maui oceanfront real estate, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
